This is a multi-use ledger that recorded accounts and payments, burial permits, water permits and customers of the water works, along with licenses for everything from entertainment, to peddlers to retail liquor.

Each entry contains the following: the name of the person connected with the record (sometimes this could the patentee him/herself, other times they were the assignee of the original patent holder, or a family member of the original patent holder), what type of patent it was (Agricultural Scrip, Military Warrant, State Volume, or Timber Culture Patents), the patent number, the volume and page where the original patent was recorded, how many acres were included, how the person gained the patent (e.g. a military patent given to a soldier or sailor will include the unit and conflict in which the person served), the land office where the patent was first recorded, and the legal authority giving Congress the right to distribute warrants that would then be exchanged for the actual patent to the land.
